Frequently Asked Questions

A Factory Acceptance Test is a formal verification exercise conducted at the equipment manufacturer’s facility before the equipment is shipped. FAT is typically required by the purchase order for major equipment items such as switchgear assemblies, motor control centres, control panels, compressors, pumps and other engineered packages. It verifies that the equipment meets the specified requirements and functions correctly before the costly and disruptive process of site installation begins.

Source inspection is an ongoing monitoring activity conducted throughout the manufacturing process — it is not a single event at the end of production. FAT is a specific verification test conducted at or near the end of manufacture. Source inspection prevents problems from developing during production; FAT confirms the completed product meets requirements. For critical or complex equipment, both activities are typically required.

We cover the full range of mechanical inspection activities relevant to oil and gas project procurement — pressure vessel inspection (ASME VIII), heat exchanger inspection, rotating equipment inspection (API 610, 611, 617), structural steelwork inspection, and piping system inspection (ASME B31.3). All inspections are conducted by qualified inspectors with relevant certifications and oil and gas sector experience.
