EXS Synergy Delivers Successful Electrical & Instrumentation Works for Major FPSO Project

Introduction

Since its founding in 2014, EXS Synergy has built its reputation on delivering world-class solutions in Explosion-Protection (Ex) compliance and Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) services. As the world’s first IECEx Certified Service Facility for Ex Inspection and Maintenance, the company has consistently demonstrated its ability to meet the most demanding requirements of the oil, gas, petrochemical, and energy industries.

This case study highlights a recently completed FPSO project that exemplifies EXS Synergy’s technical expertise, disciplined execution, and unwavering commitment to safety and quality.

Challenges

The project involved a skid package for a major FPSO development, requiring a comprehensive scope of E&I works. From the outset, the challenge was clear:

  • Systems had to be designed, installed, and inspected in strict accordance with international standards, particularly the IEC 60079 series governing hazardous area installations.
  • The scope was highly complex, demanding not only technical precision but also the ability to integrate multiple specifications, cross-referenced standards, and client clarifications into a seamless execution plan.

For EXS Synergy, this was an opportunity to demonstrate the strength of its engineering capabilities and the depth of its certified workforce.

Solutions

The team began with detailed engineering and design, developing support structures such as:

  • Instrument stanchions
  • Junction box frames
  • Cable tray supports
  • Tubing supports

Every element was carefully documented through bills of materials, datasheets, and detailed drawings, ensuring transparency and accuracy throughout procurement and installation.

Key execution highlights included:

  • Supplying and installing bulk items such as junction boxes, cables, glands, tubing, and fittings.
  • Integrating free-issue tagged instruments (transmitters, gauges, switches, indicators) with precision.
  • Embedding Human Factor Engineering principles into the design process to ensure compliance, practicality, safety, and user-friendliness for long-term operations.

Inspection & Compliance

Inspection and compliance formed a cornerstone of the project. EXS Synergy deployed IECEx-certified inspectors (qualified under Ex001, Ex007, and Ex008) to carry out both initial and detailed inspections in line with IEC 60079-14 and IEC 60079-17.

This rigorous approach ensured that every component met the highest standards of safety and reliability. The team also supported the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and successfully cleared all punch list items, delivering the skid package to the client in optimal condition.

Results

The results spoke for themselves:

  • On schedule completion
  • Within budget delivery
  • Zero safety incidents

More importantly, the project reinforced the confidence that global operators place in EXS Synergy’s ability to deliver complex, safety-critical projects. By combining over 95 years of collective management experience with a highly skilled, 100% Malaysian workforce, the company once again proved that local expertise can achieve world-class outcomes.

Conclusion

This project stands as a testament to EXS Synergy’s role as a trusted partner in the energy sector. It showcases the company’s ability to bridge engineering excellence with practical execution, ensuring that every project not only meets but exceeds expectations.

As EXS Synergy continues to expand its portfolio, its mission remains clear: to deliver solutions that inspire confidence, uphold safety, and set new benchmarks for quality in the global oil and gas industry.
