The Story Behind EXS Synergy
Based in Kuala Lumpur, EXS Synergy was established as an explosion protection (Ex) company in 2014 during one of the most challenging periods when Brent Crude Oil crashed from a high of USD115 per barrel down to USD28 by January 2016 – the largest oil price decline in modern history.
Despite the challenges in business and operations, we registered tremendous growth that was aided by the trust and responsibility from several key Clients.
In 2017, we made history by becoming the world’s first IECEx Certified Service Facility for Ex Inspection and Electrical Maintenance under the IECEx 03-4 scheme, allowing us to provide globally recognised Ex inspection and maintenance services, helping Asset Owners and Operators minimise their explosion risks and ensure the integrity of their facilities.
What Does EXS Synergy Do?
Oil and gas facilities handle flammable gases and liquids, which require careful operations and maintenance, as explosion risks are always present. With more than 400 offshore platforms in Malaysia, and more than 9,000 globally, managing the explosion risks becomes a critical requirement.
At EXS Synergy, safety is our priority, and we’re committed to sharing our knowledge and best practices in managing explosion risks, protecting capital investments and ensuring the safety of facilities and all staff involved.
While we specialise in Integrated Explosion Protection (Ex) Compliance, Asset Integrity Management, and Electrical and Instrumentation services (E&I), we also offer reliable Power and Industrial Cooling solutions for sale and rent. To stay ahead of the curve, we employ Digital Solutions as a core strategy in our business.
Globally certified by IECEx, EXS Synergy is licensed with PETRONAS and Malaysia’s Energy Commission, with active memberships in Malaysia Oil and Gas Services Council (MOGSC) and Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE).

Leadership
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Fairuz Yahaya has 17 years of experience in the Oil and Gas industry, mainly in the FSO/FPSO sector, with a mix of Engineering, Project Management and Business Development. He graduated from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2003, and later became a Professional Engineer registered with Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), a Chartered Engineer registered with UK Engineering Council, and a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).
His strengths are Business Development, Sales and Marketing. Prior to founding EXS Synergy, he was SBM Offshore’s Business Development Manager for the Asia Pacific region. He is also the Chairman of the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Working Group and Executive Committee member with Malaysia Oil and Gas Services Council (MOGSC), an industry-driven non-profit organization with a membership of over 500 Malaysian oil and gas companies.
CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
Siti Norani Samjuri is equipped with more than 17 years of professional experience in the oil and gas industry, mainly in the Procurement and Supply Chain discipline, with a strong technical knowledge in Piping and Materials Engineering.
Graduating from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Engineering in 2002, Siti worked in various multinational companies (MNC) for more than 10 years. She is highly skilled in Procurement, Administration, and Project Management, coupled with her eye for detail and determination to follow things through. In 2014, she founded EXS Synergy with several partners to capitalise on the industry’s need for cost-effective solutions in the Explosion Protection sector, driven by the oil and gas industry’s downturn.
CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER
Fern Raja Harris has been in the oil and gas industry for 20 years, with her first eight years working at KBR (UK) Ltd after graduating with a BEng (Electrical) (Hons) from the University of Warwick. From Senior Electrical Engineer and then Technology Development Manager at SBM Offshore, Fern’s career brought her to EXS Synergy in 2018 as the Ex Responsible Person for Ex matters and technical concerns beyond explosion protection (Ex) services.
Fern enjoys educating, mentoring and advocating Ex awareness and safety in the oil and gas industry, and she holds IECEx Ex001/007/008/009 Certificates of Personnel Competency. Fern is also a passionate Non-Governmental Individual, being the Founder of Friends of Kuala Woh and runs charitable programmes throughout the year with her friends and family.
